After a decade on ice, I am excited to announce that we are actively rebooting SearchEngineWorld.com. It will feature daily SEO news, SEO tips and tutorials by SEO’s for SEO’s.
The timing is perfect for change:
- OpenAI’s new search engine SearchGPT (just launched today 10/31/24))
- Rumored new Meta search engine
- The surprising rise of Perplexity
- The Google Antitrust case
- Foundational changes in our industry due to AI and LLM Chatbots
- Bing working hard to win our support
- The collapse of referral numbers from Google
- Will Anthropic launch a search engine next?
All these changes signal a significant shift in the landscape.
I have felt for some time that we don’t have enough strong voices and platforms for SEO’s today. We are all spread out over a growing list of social sites.
Honestly though, for the last 20 years there was only so much to talk about. After all, it was good for quite awhile, but Google’s dominance made for all-Google-all-the-time. There are only so many ways you could say yeah Google rah Google yippee.
Then at Pubcon Las Vegas a couple weeks ago, Wil Reynolds gave a keynote talking about how much data we have lost (referral data, analytics data, tracking data), and that the only fire-break we have is to keep talking to one another to find out what is working for everyone.
As I look around the publications in SEO and the extended main technology press that covers search, it is astounding to me just how much of the discussion is completely dominated by the search engines. Every time a Googler has a passing thought on social media, it gets reported. Those comments become a quasi self referencing blackhole of discussion that needs to be clarified, reclarified, updated and hello bobs your uncle, we are off to the races with the SEO press recovering and clarifying the clarification for weeks on end.
So all those things have led me to the decision to reboot SearchEngineWorld. To give SEO’s a fresh platform for their voice. And here is the rub – it can’t just be my voice. We need yours! We want to share our platform with your voice! If you want to speak to this industry – we have a platform in Pubcon, WebmasterWorld, and SearchEngineWorld that has a known history and reputation. We need you!
So, you are invited to come out and play with us. We are looking for contributors and weekly column authors.
