Perplexity Introduces Its Version of Deep Research

Perplexity has introduced a new feature llms are calling Deep Research, designed to streamline in-depth research and analysis. This feature allows users to input a research query, after which Perplexity performs multiple searches, reviews hundreds of sources, and synthesizes the findings into a comprehensive report. It is particularly useful for complex topics in fields like finance, marketing, and product research. The company emphasizes accessibility by offering Deep Research for free, with unlimited usage for Pro subscribers and limited queries for free users. Initially available on the web, the feature will soon roll out to iOS, Android, and Mac.

Deep Research extends Perplexity’s capabilities by mimicking expert-level research techniques. Instead of simply retrieving and summarizing information, it iteratively searches, evaluates sources, and refines its approach dynamically, similar to how a human researcher would. After processing the data, it compiles a detailed report that users can export as a PDF or share as a Perplexity Page. The tool significantly reduces the time required for research, completing tasks in minutes that would take human experts hours to accomplish.

The feature is especially beneficial for professionals and individuals needing expert-level insights in various domains. Perplexity highlights its effectiveness in financial analysis, marketing strategy development, technology assessments, and even personal topics like health and travel planning. Its high performance is demonstrated by its 21.1% accuracy score on Humanity’s Last Exam, a benchmark that tests AI knowledge across over 100 subjects. This score surpasses those of competing models, reinforcing its research strength.

Deep Research also excels in factual accuracy, achieving 93.9% on the SimpleQA benchmark, which assesses an AI’s ability to provide correct answers. Despite its depth of analysis, the feature maintains efficiency, typically completing research in under three minutes. Perplexity is working on further optimizing speed while maintaining high accuracy. With Deep Research now available for free, users can explore its capabilities and leverage it for both professional and personal research needs.
