While most browsers it is pretty easy to reset your search engine default, on Apple it has been a challenge. Now with a recent update to the ChatGPT App, it is easier than ever.
If you use ChatGPT and SearchGPT as much as we do – you can now set it as your main search engine on Safari-iPhone combo. This will allow you to start a conversation directly from the browser’s search bar.
Steps to Enable ChatGPT Search in Safari:
-
Download or Update the ChatGPT App
- Ensure you have the latest version installed on your iPhone.
-
Enable the Safari Extension
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap Apps.
- Select Safari → Extensions.
- Find ChatGPT Search and toggle on “Allow Extension”.
- (Optional) Enable “Allow in Private Browsing” if needed.
-
Adjust Permissions
- Scroll down to Permissions for Google.com and set it to Allow (this ensures the extension functions correctly).
Once set up, you can type queries into Safari’s search bar, hit enter, and be taken directly to ChatGPT for responses.
Remember that on later iPhones you can also start ChatGPT with Sirie if you have apple Intelligence turned on.
We find that SearchGPT is the perfect replacement for traditional search engines and cuts our search time dramatically.
