Google is releasing its SynthID AI text and water marking tool. They say that the watermarks in generated text are imperceptible to humans.
SynthID is a technology from Google DeepMind that watermarks and identifies AI-generated content by embedding digital watermarks directly into AI-generated images, audio, text or video. SynthID Text has been open sourced to make watermarking for text generation available to developers.
Watermark detection and verifiability
The watermark detection works on a confidence scale. There is a Bayesian detector provided with Hugging Face Transformers and on GitHub. The detector can flag 3 possible detection states—watermarked, not watermarked, or uncertain.
